DeeLee's Diggity Dog with Skinny Meat Sauce

Now that the weather is starting to warm up and Seattle's grey skies are giving way to our good friend Mr. Sunshine, I'm starting to crave hot dogs!

My inspiration for this meal came from watching the best hot dogs in America on the Travel Channel.  There was one hot dog that caught my eye that was loaded with a spicy meat sauce, but it was full of butter and fat.

Here is my take on meat sauce the skinny way.  You can load this up on whatever hot dog you love, and you won't have to feel guilty!

Skinny Meat Sauce

1 onion
2 garlic cloves
1 pound of ground turkey
1 tbsp. mustard
2 tbsp. worcestershire sauce
1 8 oz. can tomato sauce
1 can tomato paste
1 cup beef stock
2 tbsp. chili powder
1 tbsp cumin
1/2 tbsp. cayenne pepper (optional)
salt and pepper
1 tbsp. olive oil

Saute the onion in the olive oil about 5 minutes then add the garlic.  Now add the remaining ingredients and let simmer 30 minutes.  You are stewing the meat rather than browning it.

Once the meat is cooked through taste it and see if you need to add any more seasonings to it.  We like ours spicy, so I added a little more chili powder, cumin, and cayenne.

Top your diggity dog any ol' way you like adding the meat sauce first.  It will act as a glue for whatever else you decide to add to the dog.  I prefer onions and pickles!
